"Random Acts of Kindness"

By now most everyone has heard the expression. But it's not just an expression – it's a movement. There's even a national organization known as the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation www.actsofkindness.org. And there are many individual groups dedicated to spreading kindness to others by engaging in selfless acts of, well, kindness.

Here in Duvall, Washington, our random acts of kindness can go a long way.  We're a small community to begin with and anything that happens here will likely be noticed. So do something nice for someone you know – or someone you don't know.  They'll certainly appreciate it, and just maybe they'll "pay it forward" and commit a random act of kindness toward someone else.

Every year features one week that is declared Random Act of Kindness Week (RAoK Week) in Duvall. The dates are set aside to call attention to the need for kindness and compassion within our community, but it is the hope that these acts of kindness will take place throughout the year – not just during one specific week.

2010 will be Duvall’s fourth year of RAoK Week.  For the second year the neighboring towns of Carnation, Monroe and Woodinville will join Duvall for RAoK Week.  My hope is that not only will people perform Random Acts of Kindness during RAoK Week, but that we'll all start doing so throughout the year!  RAoK Week will take place the week of Martin Luther King’s birthday: January 17th thru 23rd 2010.

Please mark your calendars and make a special effort to surprise someone with a act of selfless kindness.  You'll make their day, and you'll feel good about yourself. This year we all face economic uncertainty, but it doesn't cost much, if anything, to do something nice for someone. LET’S COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY and show some extra KINDNESS to one another and HELP SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!

I hope you will join us!
